It is recommended to enable FSRS.
For sorting cards (Review Sort Order), if you are up to date, no order is best because you are gonna to see all the cards anyways (as of Thu Jul 16 01:47:52 AM UTC 2026, FSRS uses the day as the unit to mark due cards). But if you have a backlog, the current best order is Descending Retrievability.1
Currently I’m trying with a Random order, because the other orders were showing me the siblings next to each other (I’m not using sibling burying or spacing).
If you use Filtered Decks for handling backlogs, you should choose obviously Descending Retrievability.
Someone on Discord suggested using Ascending Retrievability and setting a Maximum Reviews for Day in the truly amount of cards that you wanted to study per day (you should also disable New cards ignore review limit). So you have a small backlog that can help with the FSRS parameter training and you always have a predictable daily load. I haven’t tried this
Also I was thinking in the first days to put the triple of my target reviews, then 5 or 3 days later put my true target reviews in new cards per day. So the initial momentum is used and I start with the predictable load right away, then the true target value keeps the load stable.
